Kansas City is positioning itself as a major intermodal hub and logistics center of the United States. The city is already prime location for companies with nationwide as well as NAFTA shipping needs. Given the city’s natural half-way location in the geographical center of the United States, coupled with the lack of road or rail congestion issues, it has been an optimal location to effectively use rail, truck, air and inland waterway. The city planners in Kansas City are very forward-thinking as is evidenced by the more than $9B in major improvements currently underway across the city -- $4.5B in downtown development alone. For example, the Power and Light District, an $850M dining and entertainment district downtown, is the largest new development project in the Midwest. The cornerstone of the project is the world headquarters of tax giant H&R Block. Other highlights include the $150M expansion and renovation of the Convention Center, and the $276M state-of-the-art events arena, the Sprint Center, in addition to multiple stadium and museum renovations.
